Frozen Embryo Transfer Day!

The excitement of Transfer Day is something that will likely never leave your memory bank. It’s a day filled with hope and possibility, not just for you as the Gestational Carrier, but also for the Intended Parents. The idea of becoming pregnant through IVF to carry a baby that isn’t your own for a family that has hoped and wished and prayed for this tiny miracle will have you on an endorphin high for days! Before your embryo transfer day, talk to your nurse or reproductive endocrinologist at the fertility clinic to make sure you have a good understanding of the do’s and don’ts.

There are a few things to keep in mind for the weeks leading up to Transfer Day:

  • Eat a healthy diet for the weeks leading up to Transfer Day (and throughout your pregnancy, of course).

  • Do not drink alcohol from the time you start medications until delivery.

  • Begin taking a prenatal vitamin when you begin taking the medications to prepare your body for the Transfer Day.

  • Do not wear any perfumes, lotions, or deodorants to the clinic. Embryos are fragile and scents can destroy them.

  • Continue taking your medications after Transfer Day until the fertility clinic tells you otherwise.

  • Avoid any heavy lifting or exercise for at least 48 hours unless otherwise instructed by the Reproductive Endocrinologist.

  • No sexual intercourse from the time you start estrogen until your positive Beta HCG.

  • You might need to have someone drive you to the fertility clinic and back home. Please check with your clinic to see if they require this.

Fact or Myth… We don’t know and don’t want to test the theory:

  1. Eat plenty of pineapple during the days leading up to transfer.

  2. Stop by McDonald’s after your embryo transfer and get a large order of fries. It’s urban legend that this makes the embryo stick and I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to test it to see if it’s true or not so I always err on the side of DO IT.

  3. Wear green. Green apparently has super powers for your uterus and makes the little embryo stick;)

May the power of your uterus ever be in your favor…. stick baby stick!

Nine months after your embryo transfer, we are hopeful that you are able to hand the baby you carried over to his forever mommy just like Megan was able to do in this picture. Megan and Kirby now have a lifelong friendship all because of sweet little Sully and the incredible gift of carrying him that Megan was able to do. I get teary eyed just thinking about it.
